A new regular feature: our favorite signs seen at recent events. By Peter R.

Winter 2025-26: Welcome!

We’ve been busy. And not just with Holidays and family, although that is very important for self-care of volunteers in this movement. Please take care of yourselves!

The daily assaults on our freedoms, media, and the constant grift of the Trump Administration are relentless. This is not normal.  One fact: In 2024 The Trump Organization (family biz) took in $41 million.  In 2025, so far, they have taken in $864 million – an increase of 1600% (source: Reuters). This is not what the Founders wanted from a President!

I think each of us have to pick 1 or 2 of the battles and bring our passion, skills and enthusiasm. This work and community can bring you Joy! As we say in “We Stand Together” Do what you can, if not now, when? Here are some of our pursuits this month:

-“We Ain’t Buying It” boycott/protests at Whole Foods and Target. Buy nothing support during Thanksgiving shopping season. Some committed themselves to NOT shop with corporations who openly support the  Trump Administration. Many followed “buy local.”

- Our good friends at Defund Musk Women’s Group held a reading of the Women’s Rights constitution on the Capitol Steps with a march to Sylvester Park in Olympia, cojoined with Handmaids from Seattle, Oly, Spokane and Kitsap County. Staffed by 79 Handmaids, 10 “Eyes”, a couple dozen de-esc, safety, care-bear folks and 8 photographers & videographers. Video available soon. Will post above.

WHAT’S NEXT? You want to DO something. There is a full slate of weekly actions by WSI and our allies, including Mondays with Marjorie, Writing Postcards to affect tipping point races/issues, Sign-waving, Sign-Making, and more. Details on our Events and Actions page https://www.westseattleindivisible.com/events-actions

But here are a couple that we think are extraordinary:

  • ”New Years Revolution”:  December 28. Colman Dock and a walk to the Salish Steps Amphitheater. Ring in the New Year with song, music, & signs that reflect YOUR resolution to save democracy. Sparkles, noisemakers and ideas for 2026. https://www.westseattleindivisible.com/events-actions/new-years-revolution

  • We will be holding a training and strategy meeting for current and new video team members. No experience needed to take the training for our interview teams.

  •  “We’re Still Standing” Rally and March in West Seattle on Jan. 24th, when we will chronicle all that has changed in the first year of this administration, and commit to community resistance for 2026. Rally near Hiawatha Playfield, march south on California Ave. In partnership with Evergreen Resistance and other allies. Our own Events Team is working tirelessly on sign-making (see Promo video above). Join them!

And so it goes. We persevere. It can all seem overwhelming, particularly in isolation. Join US! Join other groups. Do what you can! All of this is my opinion only, today. Email me to make a comment, or engage.

Looking for what you can do? Read more on the topics below

  • The advisory from the national chapter at Indivisible is “make Alliances”. And we are taking that to heart.  Every organization in this Movement seems to have a different “take” on what they want to do to grow and meet our shared goals of mobilizing 3.5% of our residents to the streets “consistently and persistently” to push back.

This diversity is our strength – Big Tent. We have a common enemy right now, even though we have different ideas about exact policies to pursue when we “win”. We gotta get there first. And maybe working together now will help us work together then.

  • Which of that interests you? Take a look at what we’ve done so far here - much of it is still relevant (I wish I could say things have gotten better and the Trump problems have gone away). Don’t see content you like? Don’t think it appeals to your generation? Come help us do better.  Keep Hope alive!

“No Kings 2” rally & march

October 18, Seattle Center

No Kings 2 ENERGY!

Metro Seattle turned out to the tune of 70-90,000 protestors at the Seattle Center and to march to the Pike Place Market. Thanks to our friends at Seattle Indivisible for producing the Event. Thanks to our own Jasper for editing this snapshot.

Highlights from the Podium No Kings 2

Jasper also crafted this video to give you a taste of the inspiration coming from the speakers’ dais at Seattle Center.

“No Kings 2” rally & march (WS)

October 18, West Seattle Junction

More than 1,500 people showed up at this West Seatle version of the nationwide NO KINGS 2 Rally. Beginning in the Alsaska Junction and spreading north and south, it was a great event. This piece edited by Dina highlights many of the signs and people seen.

“Under His Eye We All Rise”

A Handmaid’s Tale, presented by the Women’s Group of DEFUND Musk

This Handmaids Tale - themed Rally was produced by our good friends at Defund Musk Women’s Group. Hundreds attended at University Village. This video by Jasper captures the essence of the rally.

Forty Handmaids marched silently through Seattle’s Pike Place Market, and then formed a procession to the amphitheater at Waterfront Park to hear the speakers’ dire warnings and call to action. Video by Terry

About VRT

What Inspires Us

Robert speaks about Hope.

  • As the media production team for West Seattle Indivisible, we use all available media tools to inspire, educate, and move people to Take Action.

  • To mobilize 7% of the population of Seattle to the streets using Non Violent Protest (NVP) to push back on the policies of the current administration.

Research shows that just 3.5% of the population consistently, persistently, and publicly protesting in the streets is enough to topple dictatorships. As “the upper Lefthand corner of the U.S,” we can do better.

  • By creating and growing a diverse team of media-oriented citizens, we make short videos to distribute across all web and social media channels to reach our Target Audiences.

First Phase: To motivate our like-minded passive allies to become active allies and join this movement in the living rooms of their friends and neighbors and in the streets.

Second Phase: To educate those more neutral about the implications of the current policies and the affect these policies are already having on their lives.

Third Phase: To reach out to the passive allies of MAGA who feel betrayed by his rabid pursuit of the destruction of the economy regardless of who it hurts and how badly.

To do this all with Joy, Humor, and Goodwill, we need to make allies among groups across the region and the country.

    This coordinated effort will prevail!

What Keeps Us Going

The Video Response Team (VRT) has been filming events, rallies, and marches with a mission to Protect our Democracy and push back on the Trump changes since mid-February.

We have interviewed dozens of people affected by this dismantling of institutions. They are intelligent, informed, and thoughtful as they tell us their stories about what is going on in our country and how it affects them. Many of them are as compassionate and eloquent as Robert. Well, they are just like you!

This is what Democracy looks like!

Enjoy the videos! (see more below) Take the opportunity to meet your neighbors. And someday this nightmare may be over. Until then, I hope to meet you on the streets sometime.

Or maybe you want to join one of our Interviewer/Camera Teams or help us edit a piece for social media.

March for SCIENCE

This "Stand Up for Science Rally” In September kicked off with this inspiring march among the tourists on the Waterfront.

Save Our Science!

Presented by our friends and allies at DEFUND Musk

Why Research Matters to YOU!

Scientists at the "Stand Up for Science 2025" rally in Seattle explain how the Trump & Musk funding halt could set back our science for not just years but decades. This 3-Part Series will be completed soon!

Cancelling research today can cripple American science for a generation.

If it is not in the Lab now, there won’t be a cure in 2035

“A Rally for Women’s Rights”

This Handmaids Tale - themed Rally was produced by our good friends at Defund Musk Women’s Group. Hundreds attended at University Village.

Keynote speaker at the event was Seattle City Council’s Alexis Mercedes Rinck. We split her speech into these 4 amazing (and short) chapters. Her final chapter begins with the statement: “Speeches don’t save the world - you do” and gives a brilliant summary Call-To-Action. See why she has become my favorite politician! - Terry

West Seattle Grand Parade”

If you ever thought that this political movement is far left or extreme, take a look at us marching among the drum corps, marching bands, politicians, and yes, even the “Pooper Scooper” troopers. Talk about being '“mainstream”.

Honestly, this was the first time “marching” on California Ave that we were outnumbered by folks who didn’t come to be with us. And, people on the sidelines were happy to see that we exist and were very supportive of this movement.

One parade watcher, led the crowd in a chant of “Vote! Vote! Vote!”  We took up his chant on repeating intervals for the remainder of the march.

One way of seeing this event.

And here is Dina’s perspective

“Billionaire Bailout Bill”

Have you heard about Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill”?  Well, now it is the law of the land. The whole Trump policy agenda. You will see lots of untruths about it from the White House as Trump campaigns to “sell it” to the American people. We are not persuaded. Hear what your neighbors think.?

- ICE will have a budget 3x bigger than the FBI and DEA combined.

- Kidnapping and deportation will accelerate immediately.

- Estimated to add $3.3 Trillion to the deficit over 10 years.

- Strips more than $1 Trillion from Medicaid & SNAP (in ‘27 and beyond)

June 14: NO KINGS march/rally

70,000 people from the area showed up at this event held in Cal Anderson Park. WSI was a major co-sponsor. After an hour of speeches by many affected by the cuts and destruction, we marched to the Seattle Center. There were ZERO incidents reported. Peaceful, non-violent protest against the Trump administration. Here are two videos:

Over the past few months, we’ve asked the question “What gives you Hope?” We are both moved and inspired.

West Seattle Indivisible took the bus to Cal Anderson Park, were inspired from the Podium, and marched to the Seattle Center.

April 5: Hands Off!

Rally at Seattle Center

20,000 strong, saying “Hands Off” This was an epic event, and the citizens of Seattle and surrounding communities sounded off.

Thousands of patriots in Seattle joined millions of patriots in every one of our United States to demand the Trump/Musk administration get its Hands Off! our freedom, education, health, veterans' benefits, science, parks and everything else that makes America great!

West Seattle Indivisible’s own poet Jeanne Moore was there and presented her rally poem written for the event, “Hand’s Off.”

I recently saw the Bob Dylan movie, and afterward thought, “Where is our current day Dylan?” We need today’s musicians to write songs of protest that we can rally around. Songs that can motivate, uplift, and unite us.

Poems of Protest

Jeanne Moore, a member of West Seattle Indivisible since early 2025, has dedicated her work to pushing back against the forces of evil surrounding us today. Here are some of these pieces with her commentary. More COMING SOON! To see all of her recent work, visit jmoorepoems.com

I noticed that protests were primarily attended by older women. It might be because we have lived through a time before EPA, Civil, Gay and Women’s Rights. To stop this surge toward autocracy, we need all ages!

A tribute to the unconditional love I feel from my beautiful dogs every day. I think if the current President had ever known the love of the dog, maybe, just maybe, our world would be in a much better place.

Historian Heather Cox Richardson compared the history of 1930’s Germany to today. A friend posted it on Facebook and someone responded, “Liberal Lies! How can they be so stupid!!” I wrote this poem in response to her.

It’s very easy to turn a blind eye to our mortality. It’s also easy to dismiss the obvious crumbling of our democracy. I hope this is a wakeup call to people who think everything is OK and move them into action - before it’s too late.

“I’m not sure what is going to happen—it could be bad, but whatever happens, you will feel much better if you put some skin in the game.” -Heather Cox Richardson

When I got home I wrote this poem.

April Street Rally for Democracy

These three short videos captured the feel and content of recent street rallies in West Seattle and beyond. It shows that attending rallies is a good chance to connect with people, uplift our spirits, and build community.
